A perfect mini marathon day in 2012

The 2012 Women’s Mini Marathon took place on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4th and 363 participants took part on behalf of St. James’s Hospital on what turned out to be an unexpectedly perfect day weather-wise. As temperatures soared, the O’Callaghan Stephen’s Green Hotel most generously threw open their doors to provide a before-and-after gathering place for happy St. James’s participants who met up with friends before setting off for the start line on Fitzwilliam Square and then returned afterwards for massages, refreshments and congratulations.

Familiar faces included Louise and Stephen Doyle, from Drogheda with over 60 friends, Sandra O’Rourke from Clondalkin with family and friends and Ann O’Connor-Tuomey from Stillorgan with friends. First back to the hotel after the mini marathon was Suzanne Guerrine from Ballinteer who completed the race in 57 minutes. But, the talk of the day, were the mini marathon participants who got engaged en route – Albert Healy from Drimnagh and Rochelle Beneke from South Africa.

The tired, but happy and successful, mini marathon participants were treated to post-race leg massages by physiotherapists from the hospital’s Department of Physiotherapy using Weleda’s Arnica Massage Balm – donated most kindly by Weleda – who had also sponsored lovely prizes for St. James’s participants in connection with the mini marathon – and received Dead Sea Spa product samples given by The Natural Medicine Company .

St. James’s Hospital Foundation would like to thank all St. James’s 2012 mini marathon participants whose generous fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated, The O’Callaghan Stephen’s Green Hotel for their hospitality and Weleda and The Natural Medicine Company for the product and prizes they so generously gave.
