Christmas wreaths sold in aid of breast care department

Mrs Mary Foran with Ms Adele Henderson, Manager of the Breast Care department

Mrs Mary Foran of Naas, Co Kildare, made and sold 200 Christmas wreaths to raise €500 for the Breast Care department in St. James’s Hospital. A former patient of the unit, this is the third year that Mary made wreaths to support the Breast Care department. To date, Mary has raised over €1,300 for the department, and she is already keen to sell even more wreaths next year.

Donations received by the Breast Care department are used to ensure patients receive the highest possible standard of care, and are as comfortable as possible during their time in St. James’s. Currently, the department is installing a ‘sky ceiling’ into a small, windowless radiology consultation room. It is intended that this will allow patients to feel more relaxed and comfortable during their consultation.

The Breast Care Unit in St. James’s Hospital provides services for patients with breast disease, and in particular, breast cancer. A multi-disciplinary team including a Breast Surgeon, Breast Radiologist and Breast Pathologist work together to ensure patients are seen quickly, and receive the highest possible standard of care at what can be a very frightening time. Donations like Mary’s are greatly appreciated as they help the department maintain the highest possible standards of patient care and comfort, and provide support for vital research projects.
