2008 Dublin City Marathon

The 29th annual Dublin City Marathon took place on Monday, October 27th 2008 and St. James’s Hospital has greatly benefited from this sporting event. Tony Cunningham, Jacqueline Doyle, Vivienne Hall and Paul O’Neill all took part in the Marathon raising valuable sponsorship for St. James’s Hospital.

The Foundation would like to congratulate Tony Cunningham who embarked on his first ever marathon in order to raise funds for Lung Cancer research St. James’s Hospital. Tony was joined in his fundraising effort by friend Maeve O’Carroll, a patient of the Lung Cancer service at St. James’s. Tony finished the race in a time of 4hrs 23mins. Long-time supporter Jacqueline Doyle, of Lucan, Co Dublin, also took part in the marathon and chose to fundraise specifically for the Walter Stevenson Ward at St. James’s. Jacqueline finished the marathon in an impressive time of 4hrs 49mins.

St. James’s Hospital was also delighted to have Vivienne Hall taking part in the marathon in support of the Oncology Day Ward at St. James's. Vivienne was supported in her fundraising by Jennifer Hoey. At the same time, Dr Paul O’Neill, ENT Registrar at St. James’s, celebrated his 10th marathon by his participation. Paul completed the marathon in an approximate time of 4hrs.

The Dublin City Marathon takes participants 26.2 miles around the streets of Dublin in what has become internationally known as the ‘Friendly Marathon’. Approximately 10,000 now take part every year, with hundreds of Irish charities benefiting from the fundraising efforts of participants.
