Carlow Firemen fundraise for St. James's

Mr Stephen Murphy (in pink wig) and members of the Hackettstown Fire Brigade

On Saturday August 9th 2008, Mr Stephen Murphy and his colleagues at the Hackettstown Fire Station in Co Carlow organised a fundraising day for St. James’s Hospital.  By virtue of recent experience Mr Murphy was motivated to fundraise for the benefit of the Oncology Unit in particular. The firemen’s fundraising, which included a fancy-dress carwash and a cabaret evening, raised almost €4,500 for the hospital.

On what was one of the all too few bright summer days, the 9-man fire crew took to the main street of Hackettstown in fancy dress, collecting money and washing cars – with a little help from their fire hose! After the carwash, firemen and supporters retired to Boland’s Lounge in Hackettstown, where they were entertained for the evening by the talents of the Mocking Birds cabaret act. Mr Murphy and his colleagues also raised further funds through a ‘guess the number of bottles’ game, which was sponsored by Mr and Mrs Dermott Byrne of The Chip Shop, Hackettstown.

The Foundation would like to send our sincere thanks to the Firemen of Hackettstown Fire Station for their generous fundraising efforts.
