Dr Patricia Eadie at St. James's Gate, with her 'Pilgrim's Passport'
Dr Patricia Eadie, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at St. James's, spent her holidays doing a 765-kilometre sponsored walk in Northern Spain. Her aim was to raise funds for the trauma patients of the National Burns Unit and the Plastic Surgery Unit at St. James's. On June 20th 2007, Dr Eadie arrived in Santiago de Compostela, the alleged burial place of St. James, having walked from the French border for six weeks along the ancient pilgrims' route of the 'Camino de Santiago' - or 'Way of St. James'. She raised in excess of €36,000.
St. James's treats patients from all over the country with severe burns and hand injuries. Rehabilitation is essential if they are to have any chance of resuming lives as near normal as possible. Occupational Therapists have a vital role to play in this process - and it is to support their possibilities to provide additional rehabilitation support for patients that Dr Eadie undertook her Way of St. James.
