Dublin City Council Soccer Tournament

Participants of the Dublin City Council Soccer Tournament

On July 4th 2008, the staff of Dublin City Council descended on Cabra Park to participate in an inter-departmental charity soccer tournament. The event, which was organised by members of staff within Dublin City Council, raised over €2,000 for the benefit of St. James’s Hospital.

Caitríona Malone of the Dublin City Council HR Department, explained why they chose to support St. James’s: “We organise this soccer tournament fundraiser every year in aid of different charities and I am very grateful to my colleagues who decided to hold this year’s event in memory of my brother Michael. For this reason we chose to split the profits between St. James’s Hospital Foundation and Headway Ireland. Michael had been a patient at St. James’s and received fantastic treatment and care during his time there. We were delighted to be able to give something back by supporting St. James’s in this event.”

The fundraiser began with a soccer tournament at Cabra Park, which was eventually won by the Sports and Leisure Services Department. During the matches, those who chose not to part-take in the beautiful game were instead themselves beautified thanks to the make-up artistry talents of colleague Sinéad McKeown.

Following the football, guests made their way to the local rowing centre to enjoy a barbeque and refreshments. A game of “The Weakest Link” followed – congratulations to Caitríona Malone who took first place and the title of ‘the strongest link’! A raffle and dance topped off the evening. St. James’s Hospital Foundation would like thank to all the staff at Dublin City Council for all their hard work in organising this fundraising event, and all those who attended.
