Dolls for sale

The ‘Happy Hookers’, a group of crochet enthusiasts, organised a stall at the 2008 Rathcoole Christmas fair for the benefit of St. James’s Hospital. From Dec 22nd to 23rd, the crochet group sold their handiwork and generated €1,600, which they have most generously donated to St. James’s Hospital.

The Happy Hookers met through the knitting shop Springwools, Ballymount, and now meet regularly to indulge their shared passion for crochet. The group of friends decided to fundraise for St. James’s due to the experience of one member, Ms Bernie McKnight, who had attended as a patient of the hospital. Together they spent several months producing dolls, toys, clothing and other woollen products for sale at the Christmas fair. Testament to the quality of their work, the crocheted items were fully sold out before the end of their second day of sales.
