Mr Gay Ireland 2009

Max Krzyzanowski, Mr Gay Ireland 2009

The 2009 Mr Gay Ireland final took place in The Academy on October 26th 2008, and over €17,000 in proceeds have been donated to St. James’s to benefit the hospital’s Newfill Clinic.  The Newfill Clinic provides a facial restoration treatment designed to combat the degenerative effects of drugs administered to HIV patients.

Mr Gay Ireland takes contestants from all over the island of Ireland in a competition that promotes awareness and raises funds for HIV causes. The 2008 final was a star-studded event, presented by Off the Rails star Brendan Courtney and Irish MTV presenter Laura Whitmore. 25 contestants battled it out to impress a panel of judges that included Eurovision winner Linda Martin, Irish Independent journalist Bairbre Power and celebrity hairdresser Michael Doyle. The men competed in three rounds consisting of formalwear, clubwear and swimwear. Finally it was Max Krzyzanowski, a Muay Thai Kickboxing coach from Dublin who was crowned Mr Gay Ireland 2009.

Max entered the competition representing the Pantibar in Dublin, where he also worked as a security guard. Further to his Mr Gay Ireland success, he travelled to international competitions to represent Ireland, and on February 7th 2009, was crowned Mr Gay World.

St. James’s Hospital Foundation would like to thank all those involved in Mr Gay Ireland for their generous fundraising efforts. We congratulate Max on winning both the Mr Gay Ireland and Mr Gay World competitions and wish him every success in future.
