On August 24th, 2008 Mr Terry McCaul and Mr Conor Doyle took part separately in the 160K Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford cycle. In doing so, both raised valuable sponsorship for St. James's Hospital.
Mr Terry McCaul, of Naas, Co Kildare, has a long-standing connection with the hospital with both his mother and aunt having worked here and his uncle having trained here as a doctor. Terry fundraised in particular for cancer research at St. James's.
Mr Conor Doyle, originally from Portmarnock but now living in Lusk, requested that all funds donated by him benefit colon cancer services at St. James's Hospital. Conor decided to fundraise for this service in particular because his mother had been a patient of the service. Conor was joined on the day by his brother, Peter, and soon to be sister-in-law, Ms Laura Banfield.
The Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford, now in its second year, takes in one of Ireland's most beautiful landscapes - the Comeragh Mountains in Co Waterford. Participants can choose to cover routes of 50K, 100K or 160K. By taking on the latter, both Terry and Conor took on the most difficult of the cycles, enduring two category one climbs, The Seskin Hill and Mahon Falls, over 400m in altitude.
St. James's Hospital Foundation would like to warmly congratulate both Terry and Conor on this wonderful achievement. We are very grateful for their generous fundraising efforts and wish them every success with their future training.
