Wedding gift for St. James's

Ms Bernadette McKnight and Mr Ray McDonnell, December 16th 2005

Ms Bernadette McKnight and Mr Ray McDonnell were married on December 16th 2005 in Dublin and, in place of receiving any wedding gifts for themselves, they instead asked guests to make a donation to St. James's Hospital. In all they collected €12,000 for the benefit of the National Maxillofacial Unit at St. James's.

Prof Leo Stassen, Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at St. James's and Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Trinity College Dublin, was extremely grateful to Ms McKnight and Mr McDonnell. The fist item the unit has purchased with this gift has been a CT scan programme for assessment of jaws in 3D. Prof Stassen said: "This new facility will advance again the assessment process in relation to placement of bone grafts and implants - it will be invaluable for our cancer patients and our cleft lip and palate patients."
