The 2010 St. James’s Hospital Foundation Golf Classic took place on Monday, May 17th at Knightsbrook Hotel and Golf Resort, Trim, Co Meath. The sun obliged benevolently as 23 teams competed in an event that raised funds for the stroke service at St. James’s Hospital.
TOSH Medical scooped first prize with 97 points. Bank of Ireland took second place with 93 points (back 9) and the John Jefferson Smurfit Foundation team took third with 93 points. IBTS and Martinstown were awarded with 4th and 5th place respectively with 92 points (back 9) and 92 points. Bam Building’s Gary O’Keefe won the Longest Drive competition and Chairman of the St. James’s Hospital Foundation Board, Prof Donald Weir, won Nearest to the Pin. All funds raised at this year’s Golf Classic will support Stroke 2010, a fundraising campaign for the development of stroke services at St. James’s Hospital. The Foundation aims to raise €250,000 before the end of 2010 and funds raised will be used to provide specialist facilities and increase staff expertise – both aimed at enabling further improvements to the service and ensuring outcomes for patients that will be consistent with best practice throughout the world.
