Private 3 Ward

Private 3 is a 30 bedded surgical ward comprising of 20 semi-private beds and 10 private rooms. We specialise in a mix of elective and emergency surgeries. Our ward is a high intensity ward and we act as a step down unit for HDU and ICU patients.

The Private 3 team provides pre and post-operative care to patients undergoing surgery for cancer treatment.

Our surgical specialities include Upper GI, General, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Plastics, Maxillo-Facial, ENT and Orthopaedic Surgery.

We aim to provide holistic, thoughtful, empathetic and respectful care that places the patient at the centre of all we do throughout their stay on Private 3. We also recognise that each individual has rights and wishes regarding their treatment and management and we are respectful of these. We promote positive and productive relationships grounded in an atmosphere of open communication where no one person shall be regarded as more important than the other.

Private 3 is under the management of the SACC Directorate (Surgical, Anaesthesia & Critical Care Directorate).

All of our staff are highly skilled in surgical nursing care and we promote continuous education to ensure the quality of nursing care is maintained and kept up to date with current practices.  Nurses in Private 3 are allocated a patient group daily and under the management of two CNMs all work extensively with the wider multidisciplinary team to create an inclusive, supportive patient-centred environment.

We have many support services available who work very closely with our nursing team on Private 3 these include:

  • Physio/Occupational Therapy
  • Pain Team
  • Speech & Language Therapy
  • Clinical Nutrition
  • Palliative Care
  • Psych-Oncology Team
  • Surgical Speciality Nurses e.g. Stoma Nurse, Breast Care Nurse, Chemotherapy and Gynaecology Nurses.

We provide continuous support and education to patient and their families as we recognise how stressful this journey is and we promote an open door policy during and post discharge.
