Competency Based Framework

Introduction

A Competency Based approach to Recruitment & Selection has been developed in St. James's Hospital and is currently being rolled out across all Departments/Directorates. This is to ensure the Hospital applies a fair and transparent selection process, in line with Equality Legislation, to the appointment of staff to all positions within the organisation. Details of the Competency Framework along with Applicant Guidelines to the Competency Framework are available below.

Key changes for Applicants applying for vacancies

  • Applicants interested in applying for vacancies in these areas are required to complete a Standard Application Form (SAF). Curriculum Vitae's will not be accepted for these vacancies. The relevant SAF is posted in Word format along with the Role Profile.
  • As part of the Standard Application Form, applicants are required to give "situational examples" of where they have, in the past, demonstrated specific competencies (behaviours) as outlined in the Role Profile – see link below which provides some examples.
  • A Guide for Applicants on the Competency Based Framework including FAQ’s and the process to be followed when applying to be considered for one of these vacancies is available below.
