Background
CACT is a not-for-profit organisation established in August 2001 under the auspices of the Board of St. James’s Hospital and the Dept of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Trinity College, and initially supported by start up educational grants from seven major pharmaceutical companies in Ireland.  An Advisory Committee, chaired by Mr. Ian Carter, CEO of St. James’s Hospital, monitors the general activities of the Centre.

Goal
To provide quality continuing education programmes to enable healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry keep up-to-date with advances in pharmaceutical medicine.

Expertise
CACT avails of the vast expertise within St James’s Hospital and the Faculty of Health Science, Trinity College Dublin in the running of its courses. It also collaborates with other research / professional institutions (such as the Irish College of General Practitioners, the National Medicines Information Centre and the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics) and with external experts at both national and international level.
