The coagulation laboratory provides a testing service to inpatient and outpatient facilities and to general practitioners. It also provides a tertiary referral laboratory service to other specified agencies within Ireland. Coagulation tests are carried out for the investigation, diagnosis and monitoring of therapy in patients with bleeding and clotting disorders.

A service level agreement (SLA) should be in place between external agencies and St James's Hospital prior to referral of samples for testing in the Coagulation Laboratory. The laboratory manager should be contacted regarding this.
