Small Grants
Unsolicited donations received for the general benefit of the hospital are disbursed via an internal competition held each autumn. Applications are reveiwed by a committee comprised of members of staff who are elected by their peers.
Managing donations and Special Funds
Unsolicited donations given for specific departments or purposes are ring-fenced and disbursed accordingly. Please see the How Donated Funds Are Used section for information on initiatives that have been funded by donations given to the hospital.
The Foundation sets up Special Funds on behalf of members of staff who - and whose friends also - fundraise for their own departments. These Special Funds provide a secure and accountable way for members of staff to receive donations given for specific purposes.
Fundraising
A donation box in the main hospital concourse draws attention to the fact that the hospital needs and welcomes donations. An annual Golf Classic and Christmas Appeal invite support from the corporate sector and active promotion is undertaken to recruit support in connection with the annual Women's Mini Marathon. Such funds raised are disbursed with the approval of the Foundation Board.
The hospital is fortunate to always benefit from the generous fundraising of former patients and their friends and families and members of staff. Please see the Fundraising News section for their wonderful stories.
Governance
The Foundation is governed by a voluntary Board whose chairman at present is Donald Weir, Professor Emeritus of Medicine of Trinity College Dublin. Please see below for a copy of the most recent annual report and please contact the Foundation office for more information if required.
