Radiotherapy is the use of carefully measured doses of radiation to treat many conditions, most of which are cancers. The purpose is to destroy cancer cells while causing as little damage as possible to normal cells.
The Radiation Oncology dept. provides a referral service for St. James’s patients who may need Radiotherapy treatment. This consists of:

As all new patients are internally referred, appointment cards detailing date, time and location of appointment are issued to the patient either before they are discharged from the ward or mailed out to the postal address provided.
All return appointments are made before the patient leaves the clinic. Rescheduled or cancelled appointments can be arranged by phoning the Radiation Oncology secretary.
Patients are referred internally only from other teams in St. James’s Hospital.
