The Respiratory Assessment Unit provides a COPD Outreach Service for patients with exacerbations of COPD being treated by their GP in the community. The service provides an alternative to hospital admission by providing ‘hospital at home care’.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist or Specialist Physiotherapist will visit the patient at home for up to fourteen days, depending on the patients needs. Following the outreach visits, patients can avail of other services provided by the RAU e.g. pulmonary rehabilitation, Nurse/Physiotherapist led clinic reviews at 6 weeks and 3 months, self-management plans, extensive education package, referral to bone health clinic, smoking cessation support, long term oxygen assessments and ongoing telephone support. In addition a Respiratory Consultant OPD review will be arranged for the patient at the end of the episode of care.
Mantoux Tests are not available to GP's
The service is available weekdays from 9am to 5pm. We can be contacted at the address / telephone listed in Depatment overview.
