Hospital 4 Unit 4 is an 18 bedded Female Care of the Elderly Unit, comprising of 16 long stay beds and 2 respite care beds. The respite patients are booked through the social worker Margaret Byrne. The ward is run on a 'Home-from-Home' philosophy which means that it is made as welcoming and homely as possible. The unit has in the last few years been renovated with 'hall doors' with brass knockers and brass numbers. These wards are painted in bright colours to enhance this home like environment. The patients are most heavily dependent with past medical histories of such as dementia, cerebrovascular accidents and Rheumatoid arthritis. A very committed team provides nursing care. Team nursing was recently introduced and its goal is to provide 'the best holistic care to all patients in our care'.
