Visiting

Open visiting is permitted in Hollybrook Lodge. The Unit Manager/Nurse in charge is authorised to use their discretion at all times in relation to visiting while considering the interest of all Residents under their care.

Family and carers are encouraged and facilitated in participating in Residents activities and care as appropriate e.g. going for a walk etc.

Mealtimes are a protected time and visiting is limited to those immediate relatives who wish to join their family member to share a meal or aid their family member during mealtimes. 

Nursing staff are responsible for implementing and communicating visiting restrictions in keeping with Infection Prevention and Control policies/guidelines.

Speciality

The Robinson Unit in Hollybrook Lodge is managed by the Medicine for the Elderly Directorate. The MedEl Residential Units aim to provide the older person, who due to physical, psychological or social circumstances requires long term care with safe, effective, quality care in a ‘home from home’ environment, that provides for the person’s physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural need while safeguarding their autonomy, independence and privacy. 

All Residents cared for in Hollybrook Lodge have access to specialist medical and nursing care, a wide range of support therapies including Physiotherapy, Clinical Nutrition, Medical Social Work, Speech and Language Therapy and specialist aged-care services and treatments including Old Age Psychiatry, Bone Health, Memory Clinic etc.

Description

The Mary Robinson Unit is a 25 bedded unit consisting of 17 single rooms, two 2- bedded bays and one four bedded bay. Every single room has an en suite facility with toilet, sink and shower whilst the communal rooms share an en suite facility with toilet, sink and shower.  Each Resident’s bed-space provides room and storage for personal belongings and has provisions for safeguarding privacy.

A holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the care is provided.

Hollybrook is a secure, bright, purpose built two storey structure with stairs and a lift. There is an enclosed garden for resident’s use adjacent to and behind the building, a family room located on the first floor and a designated smoking area for residents located outside the building.

Hollybrook Lodge Residential Care Unit

St. James’s Hospital Residential Care Units are situated in Hollybrook Lodge, St. Michael’s Estate, Bulfin Road, Inchicore and come under the management of the Department of Medicine for the Elderly (MedEL) Directorate.

The two MedEL Residential Units provide medical and nursing care for a maximum of 50 male and female persons over the age of 65 years which include four respite patients. While many of the Residents who are cared for in the Units have multifaceted medical and nursing needs and associated medium to maximum dependency levels, every effort is made to ensure that their physical, personal, spiritual and cultural needs are provided for in the Units’ “Home from Home” environment.
