MISA Official Opening

President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, officially opened Mercer’s Institute for Successful Ageing (MISA) at St. James’s Hospital on 7th December 2016.  This world-class facility is Ireland’s first dedicated centre for successful ageing and the largest of its kind in Europe. Responding to the need for innovation in the delivery of services to Ireland’s growing ageing population, MISA provides coordinated patient care, coupled with far-reaching educational and training programmes to ensure the seamless integration of hospital and community research in clinical ageing.

The vision to establish a centre of excellence for ageing at St. James’s Hospital has been three decades in the making and in April 2016, building was completed on the seven storey purpose built in-patient and outpatient facility alongside a four storey research hub. MISA was made possible with funding from the HSE, Atlantic Philanthropies, the Department of Health and St. James’s Hospital in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin.

We wish to thank all our patients and staff for helping us celebrate this momentous celebration.
