Dr Aisling Loy

Genito-Urinary Medicine Consultant

Speciality:  Genitourinary medicine

Dr Loy is a consultant of sexual health and HIV care in genitourinary medicine (GUM) at St James’s Hospital. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 and completed her specialist training in GUM at St James’s Hospital.

Dr Loy is the national speciality director of genitourinary medicine training in Ireland. She is also the director of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Foundation Course, training other healthcare professionals in sexual health.
She teaches the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) Sexual Health Communications course and is the secretary of the Society for the Study of Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Ireland (SSSTDI).

Dr Loy also works in the Women’s Health Project, delivering care to victims of trafficking and sex workers. She conducts outreach work in The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital and oversees the delivery of community STI screening through HIV Ireland. Dr Loy is the medical director of Himerus Health STI Clinic.

  • Dr Loy has completed diplomas in Genitourinary Medicine, HIV Medicine, Family Planning and Leadership and Quality in Healthcare Management. She has always been interested in delivering the best quality service for her patients in a professional and non-judgmental manner.

  • Dr Loy has a special interest in human papilloma virus (HPV), herpes infection (HSV), genital dermatosis and syphilis.

  • Dr Loy is a member of the SSSTDI, British HIV Association and the RCPI.
