Dr Murphy trained in Dublin, at St George’s Hospital, London, University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street (formerly the Heart Hospital), London and at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Dr Murphy’s special interests include cardiac imaging, valve disease and cardiac computed tomography (CT).

Dr Murphy’s research interests include the genetics of cardiomyopathy, newer echo modalities, and the vascular biology of coronary plaque.
