Dr Siobhan Nicholson

Consultant Histopathologist

Speciality: Histopathology

Sub specialities: Pulmonary pathology, cytopathology

Dr Nicholson, a 1990 graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway, was appointed as consultant histopathologist at St James’s Hospital in 2000. She commenced pathology training at the hospital in 1993, continued pathology residency at Washington University in St Louis, USA, from 1995, also completing surgical pathology and cytopathology fellowships.

Between 1999 and 2001 Dr Nicholson completed a fellowship in pulmonary pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) and National Institutes of Health (NIH), Washington DC. She returned to Ireland in 2001 to take up her post at St James’s Hospital as consultant histopathologist.

    Dr Nicholson is a contributor to the WHO Classification of Tumours of the Lung, Pleura, Thymus and Heart. Her clinical interest is the delivery of excellent lung cancer care as part of the lung multidisciplinary team at St James’s Hospital. She is the current lead in pulmonary pathology and cytopathology.
