Patient charges

Under Department of Health guidelines, the following charges apply:

Irish Citizens and EU Residents visiting Ireland

On presentation of a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), EU residents visiting Ireland are not liable for the statutory fees.  See other Statutory Charge Exemptions

Inpatients

The statutory fee of €80 per day is charged for public patients. This charge can accumulate to a maximum of €800 in a rolling 12 month period.

Private Inpatients (patients with private or semi-private health cover)

  • For semi-private patients, the daily fee is €813.
  • For private patients in a single occupancy room, the daily fee is €1,000.
  • For private patients in a multi-occupancy room, the daily fee is €813.

The hospital operates a health insurance direct payment scheme on our patient’s behalf.  This means that for patients with private health insurance, the hospital will forward the patient’s bill directly to their health insurance provider in the first instance.

In order to facilitate this service, patients will be asked to sign two forms at registration:

  • The relevant health insurance form advising your health insurance provider that you want to use your insurance to cover the cost of your hospital stay.
  • The second form allowing the hospital to raise the relevant charges.

Please note: Using your health insurance cover does not affect your policy premium rate

Day Care

  • The statutory fee of €80 per attendance is charged for public patients. This charge can accumulate to a maximum of €800 in a rolling 12 month period.
  • For private patients, the charge is €407 per day.

Please note: Using your health insurance cover does not affect your policy premium rate

Emergency Department

Under Department of Health guidelines, all patients attending the Emergency Department are charged an attendance fee of €100. Exemptions to this charge are listed under Statutory Charge Exemptions.
