What is the ICS Young Onset Programme in TSJCI?
The Irish Cancer Society Young Onset Cancer Programme at TSJCI aims to provide a tailored framework for the care of adult patients with colorectal, upper gastrointestinal and head and neck cancers who have been diagnosed before the age of 50 years. The rising incidence of these cancers in this younger population has prompted the development of this collaboration between the Irish Cancer Society and TSJCI, which is the first of its kind in Ireland.
The primary focus of the programme will be to provide co-ordinated and systematic clinical care designed specifically to comprehensively address the unique needs of younger patients with these cancers. The needs of these patients and their families are complex and include social and psychological support, nutrition, sexual health, financial concerns, fertility, survivorship and palliative care. In addition, we will develop a research programme designed to offer participation in clinical and translational research studies specifically designed for this patient population.
Key personnel will be appointed as this programme evolves. These will include:
A Programme Coordinator-dedicated solely to young onset adult patients and ensure coordination of care and implantation of the programme and deliverables.
An Advanced Nurse Practioner (ANP) in sexual health, fertility and menopause
An Advanced Nurse Practioner (ANP) in survivorship and wellbeing
A Medical Social Worker dedicated solely to young onset adult patients needs
