Patient Experience

The Medicine for the Elderly (MedEL) outpatient services provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and treatment to those aged 65 and over.  This service is provided by a team of consultant physicians in geriatric medicine. The service also includes a clinical nurse manager-led Warfarin Titration Clinic.

Clinics are held in the outpatient clinical area of the Mercer’s Institute for Successful Ageing (MISA), located on the ground floor adjacent to the Institute’s main entrance.

  • We accept GP referrals. Patients referred to this service should be from within the St James’s Hospital catchment area. All referrals are clinically triaged by the consultant and appointments are scheduled based on the information provided in the referral letter.

    The following is required when attending:

    • Full blood screen
    • Chest X-ray (if advised)
    • List of all current medications
