Dr Claire Kennedy

  • Dr Kennedy graduated with a first-class honours degree in 2006 from University College Cork. She underwent Basic and Higher Specialist Training in Ireland before completing advanced clinical training in Canada. She completed a Kidney Transplant Fellowship in Vancouver General Hospital / University of British Columbia and a Home Dialysis Fellowship in University Health Network Toronto / University of Toronto. She was Clinical Director of Home Therapies and General Nephrologist in Kingston Health Sciences Center and Assistant Professor in Queens University, Kingston before returning to her post in St James’s Hospital in 2023.

  • Dr Kennedy was awarded a MSc in 2019 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland for her research into transition of dialysis modality (funded by the Strategic Academic Recruitment Award, RCSI). She has also completed a Masters in Epidemiology and Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2023). Her research interests include genetic kidney disease, kidney transplant and home dialysis.

  • Dr Kennedy had the honour of working as team doctor for ‘Transplant Team Ireland’ and travelled abroad with the team several times as they participated in the World and European Transplant Games. She is passionate about improving renal replacement therapy and access to home dialysis for Irish patients.
