Dr Ronan McDermott

Consultant Radiologist

Sub specialities: Breast imaging, thoracic imaging, nuclear medicine, PET-CT

Dr McDermott has been a consultant radiologist in St James’s Hospital since 2002. 

  • Dr McDermott completed his radiology training at St James’s Hospital before spending three years in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University, St Louis, where he completed fellowship training in abdominal imaging, breast imaging and nuclear medicine, including PET/CT. From 2003-2006 he served as education coordinator in the Faculty of Radiologists, and was President of the Irish Nuclear Medicine Association from 2007-2015. He has served as a lecturer in Radiology, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) since 2002, and is currently serving as a Fellowship Examiner in Radiology in the RCSI.

  • Dr Mc Dermott’s clinical interests include staging and management of lung cancer and lymphoma using CT and PET-CT. He is part of the Women’s Imaging Group in St James’s Hospital and helped established the Breast Cancer MRI service.  He is an accomplished cross sectional radiologist with a special interest in breast and lung Intervention.
