Dr O'Leary completed her Higher Specialist Training in palliative medicine in Ireland. She was awarded a Medical Doctorate by University College Dublin.

She worked as a consultant in the NHS and with Marie Curie Cancer Care in the UK before returning to Ireland.

Dr O’ Leary’s research interests include the role of specialist palliative care in patients living with non-malignant disease and patient-related outcome measurement.
