The Gastroenterology Department  provides high quality services to prevent, diagnose and treat gastroenterology conditions (disorders of the digestive system).

  • The service is supported by two inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) nurses, an upper gastrointestinal (GI) coordinator and a clinical nurse specialist in gastroenterology, specialising in haemochromatosis and urea breath testing.

    The services provided include:

    • Colonoscopy
    • Sigmoidoscopy
    • Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy
    • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
    • ERCP
    • Bowel Screen Programme (national colonoscopy screening programme)
    • Urea Breath Test

Please refer to Endoscopy for more information

  • GP’s can refer patients directly to our services via Healthlink.

We accept consultant and GP referrals to our outpatient clinics. Outpatient appointments are only granted on receipt of a referral letter. These are reviewed by the consultant gastroenterologists who then decide on the urgency of the appointment.
