Cancer Molecular Diagnostics

The Cancer Molecular Diagnostics (CMD) Laboratory provides an extensive range of specialised molecular analyses. For a comprehensive list of all tests provided by CMD please see the CMD section of the LabMed User Guide. 

 Research and development of new diagnostic targets and molecular techniques is an essential component of CMD. Research activities are focused on areas of investigation which complement and enhance the services offered. 

A service level agreement (SLA) or a referral from the St James’s Hospital haematology or histopathology clinical teams is required to access the service. CMD do not process samples received directly from GPs or patients. 

Additional tests may be requested on samples retained in the laboratory by emailing a completed request form to cmd@stjames.ie or by contacting the relevant senior or principal scientist.

• All samples must be accompanied by either a CMD Request Form or BRCA Test Request and Consent Form, as appropriate. 
• Please ensure that samples for laboratory testing are received by 3PM, Monday to Friday.  Samples received after 3PM may not be processed until the next working day.
• Samples must be couriered to: Cancer Molecular Diagnostics, St James’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, D08 RX0X.
• Samples should be delivered as soon as possible after collection. 
• External requests for testing on blocks retained by the Department of Histopathology, St James’s Hospital must be submitted via email to cmd@stjames.ie.
