Patient Experience

The Medicine for the Elderly (MedEl) Directorate has admission, rehabilitation, sub-acute and continuing care wards and a day hospital providing medical and rehabilitation services to patients on a day attendance basis.

It also has a busy and comprehensive out patients department and also provides a range of specialised ambulatory care clinics including the falls and blackout unit, falls and osteoporosis service, the memory clinic, stroke services and warfarin clinic managed by the community liaison managers in out-patients.

There is also on-going focus on national and international research and development within the Directorate.

St James’s has provided me with excellent career opportunities in ‘Medicine for the Elderly’ Directorate. This is one of the largest directorates within the hospital; encompassing acute, rehabilitation, sub-acute and long term care for clients. There are many opportunities for growth and development - to expand one’s scope of practice and clinical support to do so is available and easily accessible.
