Phlebotomy (Blood Testing)

Please note: Patients must be 16 years or over to avail of this service.

The Phlebotomy Service provides blood tests for all hospital inpatients, day care/day surgery patients and those attending outpatient clinics, including the Warfarin Clinic.

In addition, it supports the Emergency Department, the Haematology/Oncology Day Clinics and the Pre-operative Assessment Clinics. The department also provides a general practitioner (GP) phlebotomy service.

The Phlebotomy Department is part of the Laboratory Medicine (LabMed) Directorate.

  • GP Phlebotomy Clinic:

    • Patients referred from their GP should arrive within 15 minutes of their appointment time and check in at the self-registration kiosk. Patients will be called in for their blood test at their appointment time.
    • Patients are advised not to attend earlier than fifteen minutes prior to their appointment time as they will not be seen earlier and it is important to avoid congestion in the clinic.

    • Book their appointment online, via SwiftQueue. Access is available here
    • Have a hard-copy request form with them; otherwise the procedure cannot take place. Photographs of forms will not be accepted.
