Sharon has over 30 years of experience in working in an acute academic teaching hospital, with 15 years of experience working in senior leadership roles. She has worked internationally and has held multiple promotional posts within St. James’s Hospital, Dublin. In the autumn of 2018, she was appointed as the hospital's Director of Nursing.
Sharon has a special interest in developing nursing roles. She has collaborated closely with the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) and their Clinical Care Programmes in developing, appointing and supporting advanced nursing practice posts for both Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners through clinical leadership and research.
Sharon is presently leading on the Magnet4Europe Project in her organisation which is presently seeking the achievement of the Pathway to Excellence Programme ® award. Sharon is also a Florence Nightingale Global Scholar and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Trinity College Dublin.
Sharon’s focus has always been, and will continue to be, directed towards working with her nursing team to ensure positive experiences for patients and improved patient outcomes for those in the care of St James’s Hospital. Sharon’s work ethos is built on collaboration, transactional leadership, strategic thinking, constructive engagement with change, integrity and promoting innovation. She describes herself as having a passionate belief in the value and hugely important role that the nursing profession has to offer.
