  • Dr. Ryan received his medical degree from University College Dublin in 2001. Following completion of his higher specialist training in haematology in Ireland he undertook an international fellowship in haemostasis in New Zealand, before taking up his post in the National Coagulation Centre in 2011. He has since developed the Combined Care haemostasis/obstetric clinic with our clinical partners in the Coombe Hospital. Dr. Ryan is the Lead Consultant for the National Coagulation Laboratory in St. James’s Hospital. In 2018 he was appointed Chair of the St. James’s Hospital Blood Transfusion Committee, a position he still holds.

  • Dr Ryan’s clinical interests include the assessment and management of haemophilia and bleeding disorders, management of thrombosis and the management of coagulation disorders in pregnancy. He is also involved in medical education, and has examined for the Royal College of Pathologists in London since 2019.

  • Dr Ryan’s research interests include novel therapies and clinical outcomes in haemophilia, and haemostasis disorders in pregnancy.
