The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology specialises in diagnostic tests for a wide range of neurological and neurophysiological disorders in both inpatients and outpatients. The tests are requested by doctors and are performed by either clinical physiologists or a clinician in the department. All studies are interpreted and reported by the consultant in clinical neurophysiology.

 

  • Investigations performed includes:

    • Nerve conduction studies (NCS)
    • Electromyography (EMG)
    • Carpel tunnel clinics
    • Electroencephalography (EEG) including sleep-deprived, prolonged, 24hour ambulatory studies and home video telemetry (HVT)
    • Evoked potentials (VER,SSEP,BAER)
    • Sleep studies (MSLT with overnight PSG)
  • Referrals can be made by GPs or consultant teams in St James’s Hospital by letter. Referrals are triaged by our consultants and appointments are clinically prioritised based on the information provided in the letter.
