The Anaesthesia Department provides care at the time of a patient's surgical procedure, which includes a wide range of elective and emergency surgeries.

  • The Anaesthesia Department provides tertiary referral services for:

    • Cardiothoracic, ear, nose and throat (ENT)
    • Plastic and reconstructive surgery
    • Vascular suergery
    • Upper and lower gastrointestinal surgeries
    • Gynaecological surgery
    • Breast surgery
    • Orthopaedic Surgeries

    The department supports the national programmes in burns, haematology, maxillofacial and oncological surgeries. In addition to running 15 operating theatres, we supply out-of-theatre anaesthesia to facilitate procedures in radiology, endoscopy and cardiology.

    We maintain close working ties with the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital and the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

  • The Anaesthesia Department is approved for Higher Specialist Training by the College of Anaesthesiology, the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, and the Faculty of Pain Medicine.

    We provide a structured educational programme to undergraduate medical students from Trinity College Dublin. We offer trainees a robust education programme, mentorship, and high-fidelity simulation to supplement the wide clinical exposure they gain.
