Important information for INR self-testers about changes to the Warfarin text message system

What is changing?
As stated above, the current mobile text system for sending INR results and receiving dosing advice will no longer be used from 18th January 2024 until further notice.

Why is this change happening?
Due to unanticipated but essential upgrades, the anticoagulation service (Warfarin Clinic) has to temporarily STOP receiving or transmitting INR results and dosing advice by mobile phone text. A new system for electronic submission of INR test results is being developed and is expected to be in place by Summer 2024. Updates on this project will be sent in due course.

How will I send my INR to the clinic and receive my dose and next test date advice after 18th January 2024?
We will use the telephone system that was in use before we implemented the text messaging system. You will be able to give your INR test result to the Warfarin clinic nurse over the phone and we will give you the Warfarin dose advice and date of the next test.

What do I need to do on an INR testing day after 18th January 2024?

  • Please have your INR results ready by 9 am on the date you have been given to test.
  • A nurse will contact you on the telephone number you have given us before 12 noon to receive your INR test result and advise you on the dose of Warfarin and the date of the next test.
  • Please have a voicemail set up for your mobile phone so that we can leave voice messages if needed.

What if I have a problem?
Please contact the Warfarin clinic using the contact details below.
