The Renal Unit provides:
- Outpatient nephrology clinics for all forms of kidney disease (including those with reduced kidney function and acute kidney injury (AKI)
- Specialist renal clinics for hypertension, diabetes and SLE.
- An acute haemodialysis service for inpatients in St James’s Hospital (on chronic dialysis as well as those with AKI)
- A consultative nephrology service for St James’s Hospital
- Anaemia management (both intravenous iron & erythropoietin (EPO))
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD), dialysis and transplantation education
- Pre-emptive arteriovenous (AV) fistula work-up and construction
- Temporary and semi-permanent tunnelled vascular access for dialysis
- Native and transplant renal biopsies
- Renal transplant work up and subsequent transplant follow up.
