Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute (TSJCI) has been selected to host the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) Oncology Days in 2027, marking the first time this flagship European conference will take place in Ireland.

The prestigious event will bring together clinicians, researchers, healthcare leaders, managers and patient representatives from across Europe to advance the development of high-quality, integrated and patient-centred cancer services.

The announcement was made at the 2026 OECI Oncology Days in Warsaw, one of the most significant gatherings of Europe’s oncology community. This year’s conference attracted more than 400 senior clinicians, researchers, healthcare leaders, programme managers, and policy and system stakeholders. Discussions focused on strengthening oncology networks, improving patient pathways and enhancing integration across cancer services, fostering collaboration and sharing best practice to shape the future of cancer care in Europe.

TSJCI, Ireland’s only designated Comprehensive Cancer Centre, is transforming cancer treatment by integrating high-quality patient care, education, and training with cutting-edge scientific research. The Institute is a partnership between Trinity College Dublin, Ireland’s leading university, and St James’s Hospital, the country’s largest public hospital.

Hosting the OECI Oncology Days will position TSJCI as the first cancer centre in Ireland to lead this major European event, reflecting its growing influence within the European oncology community and the increasing integration of Irish cancer services into European networks.

The OECI Oncology Days are a key forum for collaboration among leading cancer institutions. The conference aligns closely with Ireland’s commitment to strengthening cancer care, contributing to European initiatives such as the OECI Accreditation and Designation Programme, and supporting major frameworks including the EU Cancer Mission and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

Hosting the 2027 conference will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase TSJCI’s leadership in delivering high-quality, integrated cancer care, as well as Ireland’s contribution to international collaboration in cancer systems and research.

The Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Professor Linda Doyle, said:
“Hosting the OECI Oncology Days 2027 is a major milestone for Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute and for Ireland’s cancer care community. It reflects the progress the Institute has made in establishing a strong leadership role at the European level in delivering comprehensive cancer care.

“Global cooperation is essential to advancing cancer research and the OECI Oncology Days will provide a forum for the exchange of brilliant and impactful research. This flow of people and ideas drives innovation and accelerates learning, leading ultimately to improved outcomes for patients.”

Professor Mary Day, Chief Executive Officer, St James’s Hospital, said:
“This is a significant international recognition of the strength of St James’s Hospital and Trinity College Dublin as a leading academic health science campus. Hosting the OECI Oncology Days will shine a spotlight on Ireland’s capability in cancer care, research and education, and reinforces our ambition to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation in Europe and placing patients and the public at the centre of how cancer services are designed and delivered. We look forward to welcoming colleagues from across Europe to Dublin to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and help shape the future of cancer care.”
