Active research programmes:
Dr. Hoey leads a multidisciplinary research team in the area of musculoskeletal mechanobiology and materials for regeneration within the Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering and the Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research (AMBER) Centre. His research focus is to delineate the importance of mechanics in tissue (patho)physiology and utilise this fundamental information to inform the development of novel therapeutics, biomaterials, and biofabrication technologies to treat diseases such as cancer and to promote tissue regeneration/replacement. His team has made significant advancements in understanding the mechanisms by which biophysical stimuli are transduced by cells and has targeted these mechanisms utilising novel mechano-therapeutics to treat disease.
