Dr Claffey was appointed to St James’s Hospital in 2026
Internship at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital 2012 International house officer experience in Christchurch, New Zealand before completing RCPI basic specialty training in Wexford, Tallaght and St James’s. He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2014. While completing his PhD, he was the Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Gerontology at Trinity College, where he contributed to both the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs in the Discipline. Went on to complete higher specialist training in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine in July 2025 after three training years in Cork and the final two in Dublin at Tallaght and St. James’s.

University College Dublin in 2012 Membership of Royal College Physicians of Ireland 2014 He completed the specialty certificate examinations in geriatric medicine in 2022 with RCP UK. PhD in Medical Gerontology 2025 with research focussing on Falls, Cerebral Perfusion in Orthostatic Hypotension and related Syncopal Disorders. Additional qualifications in stroke and cerebrovascular disorders, falls, syncope, and related disorders and holds a professional diploma in clinical leadership from the RCSI.
