Dr Amanda Lavan

Sub specialities: Clinical Pharmacology, Geriatric Oncology, Falls and Syncope.

Dr Lavan is a consultant geriatrician. She took up her position in St James’s Hospital in 2021.

  • Dr Lavan is a medical graduate of RCSI, Dublin. She completed higher speciality training in Geriatric Medicine in 2020. During her training she was awarded a PhD from UCC entitled “Targets for Deprescribing in High Risk Older Adults”. While working at St James’s Hospital she completed a Masters in Health Service Management with Trinity College Dublin. She was appointed a senior clinical lecturer in 2021 with Trinity College Dublin. She is currently the Co-Chair of the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee at St James’s Hospital and as of April 2024 is the NCCP co-Lead in Geriatric Oncology. She is a member of the Irish Gerontology Society committee and serves as chair for the scientific committee.

  • Biomedical Science (BSc, hons), National University of Galway Medical Degree (Mb BCh BAO, Hons), Royal College of Surgeons Dublin. Research fellowship (PhD), University College Cork Masters in Health Service Management (MSc, pass with distinction), Trinity College Dublin Diploma in Cerebrovascular and Stroke Medicine, RCPI (DipCSM) Diploma in Syncope and Related Disorders, RCPI (DipSync).

  • Dr Lavan has publications in the area of clinical pharmacology, geriatric oncology and falls and syncope.

    • Committee member of the Irish Gerontological Society.
