Dr McEniff studied at University College Dublin. He went on to complete a four year radiology training scheme with the Faculty of Radiologists at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.

He completed two years fellowship training in interventional radiology in Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston,followed by two years on staff at the Beth Israel Medical Centre (Harvard University).
