Professor Sylvia O’Keeffe is a Consultant Radiologist in St James’s Hospital since 2010. Her specialist interests are in breast and gynaecological imaging. She is an associate professor in Trinity College Dublin and has served on national committees for breast diseases. She was appointed as Clinical Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Directorate in 2026.
Prof. O’Keeffe graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2002 and completed her postgraduate radiology training at St James’s Hospital, Dublin. She subsequently undertook fellowship training in oncology imaging at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, and in women’s imaging at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK. She also spent two years working as a consultant radiologist at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts), London.

Professor O’Keeffe’s specialist interests are in breast and gynaecological imaging. She was the lead breast radiologist in St James's Hospital from 2016 to 2026. She also developed the radiology teaching programme for medical students in Trinity College, Dublin.
Prof. O’Keeffe’s research interest is in oncology imaging, particularly breast cancer. Her other interest is in women’s imaging, including fertility and gynaecological cancer.
