Dr Owens graduated from National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008. She completed specialist training in Ireland and subsequently completed a PhD in polycystic ovary syndrome at Imperial College London.

She also completed a clinical fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Imperial College London Healthcare NHS Trust.

Dr Owens works in the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) and the Endocrinology Department at St James’s Hospital. She oversees the Type 1 Diabetes Clinic and also has a Benign Thyroid and General Endocrinology Clinic. She has a special interest in reproductive endocrinology in pre-pregnancy and obstetric diabetes.  

Dr Owens is an honorary senior clinical lecturer in Imperial College London, where she researches ovarian molecular biology in polycystic ovary syndrome.
