Speciality: Microbiology

Professor Wagener is a consultant microbiologist at St James’s Hospital and the professor of clinical microbiology at Trinity College Dublin. He completed his higher professional training in clinical microbiology at University of Munich in Germany in 2014. He was senior lecturer and consultant at University of Munich and University of Würzburg in Germany before he moved to Ireland in 2020. He is co-director of the Irish Mycobacteria Reference Laboratory at St James’s Hospital and lead of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology Excellence Center at St James’s Hospital and Trinity College Dublin.
