The Cardiology Department at St. James’s Hospital is one of the leading cardiac departments in the country comprising of some of the most experienced consultant cardiologists, supported by a dedicated team of nurses, cardiac physiologists, radiographers and support staff. The hospital is to the forefront in embracing latest techniques and technologies to enhance the care of the cardiac patient.  The Cardiology Department at St. James’s Hospital performs a full range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures including:

Appointment Instructions

You will receive your appointment date and time in the post or by telephone. If your appointment is for the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and the date is not suitable please contact the cath lab coordinator on 01 410 3550 or 01 428 4063 as soon as possible so another patient on the waiting list can be given that appointment and a new one can be scheduled for you if requested.

If your appointment is for Diagnostic Cardiology and the date is not suitable please contact the secretary on 01 416 2792 or 01 416 2796 as soon as possible so another patient on the waiting list can be given that appointment and a new one can be scheduled for you if requested.

Referral Procedure

The only procedure that will be performed for a General Practitioner is an ECG. Patients who have a referral letter from their GP can have their ECG’s performed from 9.30-3pm Monday to Friday.

If you have any queries about the test you are booked in for please contact the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (CCL) on 01 410 3550 or 01 428 4063 or the Cardiac Department on 01 4162792 or 01 4162796. Please inform the department if you are unable to keep your appointment as soon as possible so another patient on the waiting list can be given that appointment and a new one can be scheduled for you if requested.

If you are taking Warfarin, Rivoroxaban (Xarelto), Apixaban (Eliquis) or Dabigatran (Pradaxa) which are blood thinners please contact the Cath lab co-ordinator immediately.
