National Maxillofacial Unit

The scope of the national maxillofacial unit is
- Trauma – facial lacerations, facial bones including craniofacial (with neurosurgery).
- Facial deformity - orthognathic surgery for jaw discrepancy, dysfunction with associated aesthetic surgery, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial deformities, orbital corrections, post-traumatic facial deformities including nose
The Unit is part of the Dublin Cleft Centre and works as a multidisciplinary team involving all the relevant specialists.
- Oral cancer / Head and Neck Surgery and its reconstruction MDT held weekly
- Salivary gland disease – infection, tumours stones.
- Facial pain
- Jaw joint pathology (Temporomandibular Joint) – jaw lock, - ankylosis etc
- Implantology (intraoral and extraoral) These allow for the replacement of missing ears, eyes, the nose, jaws and teeth.
- Dentoalveolar Surgery / Orthodontic Surgery – wisdom teeth etc
